All that is necessary is a willingness to express yourself, to familierize yourself with the tools of each medium, and aquire a basic grasp of the techniques used with each. A good basic knoweledge of anatomy isn't necessary for art but is handy in production of portraits, and similar studies. A knowledge of facial structure, or more importantly the ability to reproduce it from the subject is important , but again the demands can vary Not that portraits are limited to a realistic style alone, many free styles of painting, or abstract methods, can look little like the subject but be just what the purchaser wants. The same suggestions apply in Sculpture as well , The most important fact to remember is that unless the project that your contracting to do, is something like mural painting or portraits, or a project where specifics are defined, you are in a free universe of expression. your use of color or shading , or in sculpture structure, are always right. Art is one of the few things in life that allow such freedom, in this other larger portion of the world of art, you are never wrong in your finished piece. Art is an expression, and the expression of every individual is different in some wonderful way, your project, as long you find joy or satisfaction in it , will always be right.
