A few things:
1. That you are still alive after a while. Your heart sustains you by pumping oxygenated blood throughout your body, and removing deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
2. If you put your fingers at certain vessel points around your body you can feel your pulse - blood coursing through your blood vessels.
3. You can feel your heart pounding, either with or without placing your hands against your ribcage.

The medulla oblongata in the brain stem sends a signal down the spinal cord to the sinoatrial (SA) node of the heart to induce contraction. The wave of contraction spread across the heart muscle (which acts partially as both nerve and muscle) to pump blood throughout the chambers.
For one thing, you're still alive when you wake up. Obviously you can't observe yourself when you sleep but if someone else were to, they'd see that you still have a pulse and are still breathing.
They are involuntary. You don't have to remind yourself to make your heart beat, so it is involuntary. These are involuntary in nature.
The heart is a muscle and in fact the most important
It simply keeps it circulating throughout the body. Your heart is the one muscle that works all the time and keeps you alive. Your mind and your heart basically depend on each other. The mind tells the heart when to beat, and the heart pumps oxygen-rich blood to the mind. But really all the heart does is allow blood circulation through your body. Best to eat healthy to avoid disturbances in its work, which are usually lethal. (Life threatening.)
Your brain tells the muscle to move by sending electric impulses through your nerves to your muscles.
A Nerve cell tells a muscle when to contract.

There is no such tissue, the heart can beat automatically, without an external stimulus, it has several groups of automatic cells that discharge electricity currents that make the muscle cells in the heart beat sinchronically. Also, this automatic beat can be slowed down or can be made quicker by influences of autonomous nervous system, but remember, it can work by itself. It is called an involuntary muscle.
The Purkinje fibers work with the sinoatrial node to enable consistency in the contractions of the heart.Purkinje fibers are muscle fibers in the heart. They relay the contraction impulses from the bundle to the myocardium of the ventricles.Purkinje fibres transmit the signal that tells the heart to beat from the pacemakers to the heart muscle. They are even capable of generating their own signal if the pacemaker is damaged.
