andy warhol was trying to show the society the new genre of art, known as pop art. However, he had been mocked at. But Warhol kept on working on his art, which in the end, people accepted it and supported it. Andy warhol was trying to tell the world that numerous differences can be made in art, and he wanted the world to accept the new kind, opening their blind eyes in taste of art.
Expressing might be the wrong word, but the answer is Nothingness....and vapid culture...he was mocking the shallow bits of culture by recreating it and elevating it to the level of the emotional "high art" of the Ab-ex's. This is a generalization, he was very complex and his work's many layers will be picked apart for ages to come, but he essentially was interested in art as a means of advertising persona and celebrity.
