I think because she watched Dracula A LOT and she came up with the idea that a vampire shouldn't drink human blood all the time and that the vampire shouldn't have a girl that will get killed because the vampire can't conrol itself, so i think that is where she got twilight from. Edward really loves Bella and he would never hurt her.... and her friendship with Jacob is turning into more then a friendship, but through it all...... Bella has to make a choice...... Love Edward (the vampire), or love Jacob (the werewolf)
That's not exactly it... Stephenie Meyer said that her inspiration was a dream that she had and that Chapter 13 Confessions in Twilight is basically a transcript of that dream.
