Timothy McVeigh used thirteen barrels filled with explosives. 9 barrels contained ammonium nitrate (a common fertilizer) and nitromethane (well known as racing fuel in Top Fuel drag racing, and as an important component in the fuel for the miniature internal combustion engines used, for example, in radio-controlled models). 4 barrels contained a mixture of the fertilizer and about 4-U.S.-gallon diesel fuel. Two green cannon fuses were connected to two sets of non-electric blasting caps, which, when set off initiated 350 pounds of Tovex Blastrite Gel "sausages", which in turn set off the configuration of barrels.
