journeys with paul
I think there were two, the one who touched Pauls eyes and Ananias and Sapphira.Answer:Three. Ananias the husband of Sapphira (Acts 5), Ananias of Damascus, whom the Lord sent to Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9), and a high priest named Ananias (Acts 23).

During his conversion experience, Jesus had told Paul (who was then called Saul) to go into the city and wait. Jesus later spoke to Ananias in a vision, and told him to go to the "street which is called Straight", and ask "in the house of Judas foronecalled Saul, of Tarsus". Ananias objected that Saul had been persecuting "thy saints", but the Lord told him that Saul was "a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel". When Ananias went in to Saul and laid his hands on him, the "scales" of dead tissue on the surface of his eyes fell off, and he looked up at Ananias. After additional instruction, Saul was baptized.
I would say that they are indeed different people. Ananias and Sapphira are mentioned in Acts chapter 5. The other Ananias is mentioned in Acts chapter 9 which I would think is at a later time.Although, When the Lord told Ananias to go to Saul, Ananias questioned the Lord (Acts 9:11-15) which is similarto the behavior exhibited by the Ananias who was married to Saphira and lied "...not unto men, but unto God." Acts 5:4

In Acts chapter 9 it gives the account of Saul's conversion. Verse 4 said that he heard a voice ask him: "Saul why are you persecuting me?" The voice identified himself as Jesus and gave Saul specific instructions to go into the city of Damascus and from there it would be revealed to him what to do. Saul was stricken with blindness so he had to be led into the city. Jesus had appeared in a vision to one of his disciples, named Ananias, and instructed him to meet Saul. Once doing so, Ananias cured Saul of his blindness and filled him with Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit must have also helped him with his "spiritual blindness" because after staying some days with Ananias, he immediately started his preaching work.
