First of all what civil war are we talking about.
If we are talking about the American Civil war the one that happened from 1861-1865 then there are many reasons as to why this war started.
Some can say it was about slavery, some can say the south just wanted there own country.
But the main reason is that the North did not want slavery anymore, since the rest of the world pretty much outlawed slavery America did not want to be seen as barbaic low class people. Also the North was becoming more of the city life where the South was staying like a farm so they needed slaves to run the large acres of land
