The initial premise was to show the humor of four, highly intelligent but socially inept males interacting with each other and with the socially experienced but less intelligent Penny. The show has added romance over the years: one of the guys is now married, and two others have girlfriends -- although these relationships are FAR from normal, even for sitcom romance.
