There were two pilots. The first pilot requested by NBC, which eventually aired with revisions as "Tempered Steele", depicted the agency six months after Laura Holt met the man who assumed Remington Steele's identity. After NBC scheduled the series for the 82-83 season, they requested a more traditional premise pilot, aired as "License to Steele", which showed how Holt and "Steele" met.
