The Swiss-designed, Italian-built, United States Navy bathyscaphe Trieste reached the bottom at 1:06 p.m. on January 23, 1960, with U.S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard on board. Only three descents have ever been achieved. The first was the manned descent by Trieste in 1960. This was followed by the unmanned ROVs KaikÅ in 1996 and Nereus in 2009.
Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard reached the bottom of the Mariana Trenchat on January 23, 1960; during the Challenger Deep Mission.
First off, its Mariana Trench, and it is at 11,033 meters (36,201 feet) deep

The Mariana Trench was first measured by HMS Challenger in 1875 using sounding lines. The depth recorded by that method was 4,475 fathoms (8,184m). The first sonar measurement was made by another oceanographic survey ship of the same name, in 1951. The depth reported by that expedition was 10,911 meters.
The Deepsea Challenger Sub recorded the deepest dive into the Mariana's Trench. James Cameron became the first person to reach 6.8 miles down to the floor of the trench.
The first person to reach the bottom of the Marianas trench was French explorer and scientist Piccard, in the bathyscaph. This was a type of submarine that was filled with a liquid (gasoline, I believe) as ballast, to be able to resist the incredible water pressure. The part where the people went was a sphere suspended beneath the hull of the ballast tank. In essence, the vehicle was like a hot-air ballon but for going underwater. This immersion happened in 1957.
The Mariana Trench was first pinpointed and surveyed in 1951 by the British Survey ship Challenger II Source: http://www.marianatrench.com/mariana_trench-exploration_001.htm
As far as I am aware, only two people have ever reached the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Jacques Piccard and Donald Walsh dived to 10,915 meters in a navy bathyscaphe called Trieste on January 23, 1960. I don't think this dive has ever been replicated by any manned submersibles since.
For the most part, the deepest parts of the the oceans have not been explored. However, in 2012, James Cameron reached the bottom of Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean. When he got to the bottom he was at 35,756 feet.Ê
January 23, 1960. The Trieste made it to the bottom of Challeger Deep which is the deepest point in all the world's oceans.
India's first submarine was INS CHAKRA nd first nuclear submarine is INS ARIHANT..
first off Marianas Trench is a band my favourite band in fact and say anything is a song their lead singer Josh Ramsay wrote while he was in rehab but don't hold it against him that he went to rehab they're a great band!
