∙ 14y agoEoraptor (228 - 225Ma) is currently recognised as the 1st dinosaur. It was a 1 meter 2 legged carnivorous therapod dinosaur.
Other contenders are the therapods Straurokosaurs (225Ma) & Herrerasaurus(228Ma).
A recent find in Madagascar of couple of Prosaurapod species that may date back to 230 million years ago.

The first dinosaur ever described scientifically was called Megalosaurus. It was only later that Sir Richard Owen (1804-1892) coined the term 'dinosauria' for a suborder of large, long-extinct reptiles.
