I haven't found a clearcut answer yet myself. I found a picture that matched my A408 (except for color) on a apx. 1978 brochure at www.automaticwasher.org, a website and discussion forum for antique and vintage washing machines etc. Someone there would probably be able to answer your question (and mine), especially if they had the serial #.
I found the brochure by going to the Discuss-o-mat forum archives, Imperial archives 2006, thread#6633.
I don't know when it was 'made' for certain. I do know that I bought mine in 1979. I think it was made in 1978. Mine is still working!

I have one purchased in 1987.
I have a Model A-510 still working and it was purchased in 1981.
If you phone the Maytag/Whirlpool company (the 1-800 numbers are on their website), with the serial number of your appliance, the rep. there can provide you with the date of manufacture. (I just did that today, turns out my Maytag LAT5000 washer was made in 1992).
The tag on my A107 indicates it was built in 1981.
I own one that was made in 1989 (Maytag Washer Model A112, Series 04, purchased April 1989) I also own a Maytag A112. It is Series 02, purchased in August 1986.
the E2L is not the valuable, More of them then any other wringer washer were made then any other model ever ... they were made up into the 80's
Maytag Model LAT9605AAE was made in 1989. This is a washer appliance and some of the design has sears parts in it.
