The j.c. higgins model 103.228 was made in the early 1950s. Most likely in 1950 as the 103.229 model was made in 1951.
1958 to 1961
A JC Higgins .22 caliber rifle, model 103.229 is about 55 years old as of 2014.
I was 5 years old in 1957 when my Dad helped me hold and aim his J C Higgins model 36 22cal rifle (which I own today). When I was about 12 years old I asked him when he got his rifle. He said his dad bought it for him when he graduated from high school in 1945. http://www.histandard.info/PDF/Sears%20Rifles.pdf

I received a model 41 for Christmas in 1959. I believe my Dad payed $12 for it from our local Sears store. I still have it today. Still shoots accurately. This Christmas (2009) it will be 50 years old!
You can't. There is a safety recall on that model- unsafe to shoot. Sears has been buying back the bolts for years to take them out of circulation.
seventy years
Sears used the JC Higgins name on firearms from the 1940s until 1961.
I believe you are talking about a Crosman model 140 or 1400 first made in 1954 and then again in 1955-57, 1956-62, 1961-68. These were all Variations of the same model. For Years Crosman and Daisy made airguns under the J.C. Higgins name for Sears. All Crosman models for sears began with (126) and Daisy models began with (799) See the following web pages to verify this air Rifle. See the links below.
I believe you are asking about an air rifle made by Daisy air gun co. Made for Sears under the JC Higgins name. From your description I believe it is a model 1894 BB rifle. ( it looks like a Winchester 30 30 if I am right) If so then yes there is value in it But it all depends on the condition of the rifle. Is it still working? is it in Excellent, Very good, Good, Fair, or Poor condition?
Your Sears model 53 rifle is indeed a Winchester model 70 rifle. These were fine made rifles that would be very good to hunt with!I am not sure what years winchester made these rifles for Sears though.
No way to answer. Which shotgun? We need a model number- Sears sold shotguns for over 80 years, and there were a LOT of different guns, different values.
