The House of Windsor came into being in 1917, when the name was adopted as the British Royal Family's official name by a proclamation of King George V, replacing the historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. It remains the family name of the current Royal Family. Prince Charles, his son Prince William and Prince William's new son are all members of the House of Windsor. There is no such thing as the "House of Mountbatten". One of Prince Charles's relatives was Lord Louis Mountbatten, which was a courtesy tile. His family name was Battenburg.
Louis.
Mountbatten-WindsorPrince Charles's last name is Mountbatten-Windsor, which is the surname for all of Queen Elizabeth II's children and descendants. It was adopted after she became Queen.

Lord Louis Mountbatten
Good question. It is currently Mountbatten-Windsor, after his marriage to the Queen, but his name before was Mountbatten. Most royals either use Mountbatten-Windsor as their surname eg. Philip Mountbatten-Windsor Charles Mountbatten-Windsor or their place name eg. William Wales Catherine Cambridge
Because that is the royal family's surname
There is no English Charles III. If Price Charles ever succeeds his mother, Elizabeth II, he will become Charles III. You may be thinking of Charles II in the 1660s.
William would become king should Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, predecease his mother Queen Elizabeth II.
The monarch in the UK is currently Queen Elizabeth II. The heir apparent is Prince Charles who will become King Charles III when (or if) he succeeds Elizabeth. Prince William will become King William V when (or if) he succeeds Charles.
The number that follows a monarch's name indicates the number of people with that name who have reigned. It does not go by ruling houses. The current queen is the second person named Elizabeth to reign over Great Britain. Therefore, she is known as Elizabeth II. If her eldest son succeeds to the throne, he will be known as Charles III because two monarchs named Charles preceded him.
Constitutionally Prince Charles is currently next in line to the British throne. Whether he succeeds the Queen is his choice.
