It was NOT the birth of Jesus that started xmas, dont believe something just because Charlie Brown said it. The truth is, its a clusterfuck of several other countries winter holidays. same with santa and jesus and all that garb. Christmas is actually a pagan holiday where men would get wasted and bang each other (facts not fiction). Chris Kringle was a philanthropist/gift giver, especially around holiday times. in Spain and several other countries, sinterklaas was a folklore (of where the closest thi to santa klaus originated) he has a wife that wheres blackface, he would fight monsters, and if children were bad hed have a demon named krampus show up and kidnapp them, throw them in a sack, and make them work on coal mines ( I swear this is all reall look it up). As Europeans moved to America over time, xmas became more of a tradition. in 1870, President Grant officially made it one along with new years and Thanksgiving. How the hell Jesus got mixed up in there? I really couldnt tell you... I honestly dont think he was part of Christmas at all until the Charlie Brown Xmas special aired on tv to be perfectly honest with you...
Well, its the birth of Jesus Christ that made Christmas. I don't think that the government made Christmas. Christians just celebrate His birth.
