When her parents found out about the marriage, they had it annulled. Since then, Aaliyah passed away in a tragic plane crash, and R Kelly was accused of having inappropriate sexual relationships with several minors.

∙ 14y agor Kelly married Aaliyah because he wanted to have sex with her and she was a minor. he also thought that if they were married it wouldn't be that wrong. i think he probably "brainwashed" her into putting her age as18 unless he wrote that himself. Aaliyah was a very smart girl and i honesty don't know why she would have sex with a 27 year old pig, but she probably loved him.

In 1994, and then again in 2005; Vibe Magazine posted a copy of a marriage license between the two that showed either Aaliyah falsely stated her age as 18, or either R Kelly could have very well persuaded her to lie if he didn't go to the courts solo and lie about her age him self. Whatever the reason, in 1995 the marriage was quietly but quickly annulled after months of the union being posted on blog sites, newspapers, etc. After that stint, Aaliyah parted ways from R Kelly and began working with Timbaland and Missy for the rest of her career, and R Kelly himself continued establishing him self as a solid artist in the music industry.
