The first capital of the Oregon Territory (Oregon wasn't a state until 1859) was, fittingly enough, Oregon City. Salem first became the capital in 1851. It was briefly moved to Marysville (present-day Corvallis) in 1855, but it was changed back to Salem in the same year.
