The State of the Union address is given annually. WHEN it is given can vary, although lately it has been given in late January or early February. For example: The 2010 State of the Union Address was given on 27 January 2010. The 2005 State of the Union Address was given on 02 February 2005. Note that the first State of the Union address was given on 08 January 1790, but John Adams' first State of the Union address was delivered on 11 November 1797.
In the 20th century, the State of the Union address has averaged about 5,000 words. The longest was President Truman's address in 1946, at more than 25,000 words. The shortest was President Washington's first address in 1790, at 833 words. President Obama's first address in 2010 was about 7,000 words.
There has been 92 State of Union address spoken by the presidents of the United States. That includes from George Washington to the last one given by Barack Obama.

Shaun Donovan, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Hilary Clinton was also absent from the Address, as she was at a meeting in London. If all the attendees at the Address had been killed, she would have become President. However, since the public knew about this, another member of the Cabinet had to be the designated survivor.
