Tomas Jefferson was a colonial from the time of his birth in 1743 until the start of the American Revolution in 1774 or 1775, depending on how you chose to view history. Prior to the beginning of the war all Americans were still considered colonial by their British contemporary's. Once the war began or after its conclusion, again depending on how you chose to view history, all Colonial Americans became true Americans.
