When you listen to music, you either like it or you don't. Everyone has a different taste in music. Personally, the person's voice is a huge factor in if I like it or not. My mood also helps me decide if I like it. A lot of the time, lyrics are a good thing to look for too. If you like the lyrics in a song, /most of the time/ you'll like the song. But usually, it comes down to if you like it or not. Never let anyone tell you that what you like isn't "good" because they're not the one going home to listen to it.

What benefit is there in hearing a piece of music more than once?

Depending on the music and the quality of the performance, there may be subtleties that are missed until they become clear with other hearings. Sometimes there are elements of the piece's structure that may not be clear from one hearing only. It would also be beneficial to listen to a piece of music several times if you intend to learn and/or memorize it. For some it is very helpful to get the score and to listen while reading. People may disagree but I think a first hearing should usually be without the score.
