On February 29, 2012 an EF4 tornado started in Saline County, Illinois and struck the town of Harrisburg, killing 7. It later moved into Gallatin County near Cottage Grove and caused significant damage in the town of Ridgeway. After leaving Ridgeway the tornado continued traveling east-northeast for another 3.5 miles before dissipating.
