The origin of the human ego is a complex topic with various theories from different psychological and philosophical perspectives. Some theories suggest that the ego develops as a result of social interactions and environmental influences during childhood, while others propose that it is a product of our evolutionary history and survival instincts.

Ego is our sense of self-consciousness, the realization of "I". Ego evolved in humans as our brains gradually grew bigger and more complex. Lower animals may have some sense of awareness, such as of their surroundings or sounds they hear, or of hunger, but they have no sense of "I", "Me". Dolphins however, & possibly some apes, probably have some form of self-consciousness. Dolphins even recognise themselves in mirrors.
