Violin and piano
The violin is the smallest stringed instrument in an orchestra.
Violin 2 means that there is an orchestra in the music being played, but different notes. There are Violin 1, Violin and Violin 3, but played in different times, notes, depending on the music sheet they have.
It's the violin, piano is rarely used in orchestra pieces.
It depends on the orchestra, really. This year in my orchestra there are maybe 20 violins, both 1 and 2. In my 8th grade we had 10. Modern orchestras work around 16 Violin 1's and 14 Violin 2's.
