Charles 1st was executed on 30 January 1649 on a scaffold erected outside the Banqueting House in Whitehall, London. The Banqueting House was originally part of the Palace of Whitehall. The palace was destroyed by fire in 1698 and the Banqueting House is the only remaining part of the once huge palace.
