Most PC lifetimes can be measured by the maintenance techniques of a user. The more you know about managing your machine, the longer it will last. If you use safe practices like installing security features and anti-virus software and not accessing certain sites that can infect your machine, you have a good chance of it lasting longer. With that being said, it's a matter of preference and cost. MAC's don't get viruses as much but their systems are special in that you may have to pay for expensive updates to keep up with technology over time. The Dell may be more prone to viruses because it's a PC, however, upgrades in technology over time will probably be less expensive than a MAC
