Dolls have been made probably since the first humans made toys for their children. Manufactured dolls came later and there are designers of those dolls.
Dolls have been around for so long, no name is known. For ages, children have played with dolls made of different materials.
Nobody actually knows for sure, as evidence of dolls date back all the way to the stone age(3000 BCE-ish).. some of these "dolls" are assumed to be made for religious observances though it is impossible to be sure. but as far as we can tell, as long as there have been people, there have been figures or dolls made to look like them or the animals they saw.
