Gore Vidal, whose birth name is Eugene Louis Vidal, was an American writer of essays, screenplays, novels and stage plays.
He was born on the 3rd October 1925 in New York, US.
He is best known for writing "Burr" and "Lincoln". As well as "The City and the Pillar", which was found to be offensive by conservative Americans simply because it featured a male homosexual relationship. His works are noted to explore the nature of corruptions in private and public life.
He was also known very well for his debates on politics, sex and religion, which often became quarrels. In particular he is remembered for claiming that all men and women are potentially pansexual and refusing to use words such as "homosexual" and "heterosexual" because he felt they were just false labels to control people in society.
He died of pneumonia on the 31st July 2012 in California, US.
