Henry (Valentine) Miller, born in Manhattan, US, on the 26th December 1891, was an American author.
He was known as a particularly controversial writer in his time, developing a new kind of semi-autobiographical novel which included explicit language, sex and adult themes.
His works were banned by the United States under laws prohibiting pornography, due to the content which at the time was seen as obscenity. This lasted until 1964, when the Supreme Court overruled the ban, becoming one of the several events that led to the sexual revolution.
