Jo Cox was a female Labour Party politician who represented the Batly and Spen Constituency in England after being elected in the 2015 General Election. The following year the Government held a Referendum as to whether Britain should remain a member of the European Union or not- the Labour Party was in favour of it and Jo Cox was a leading campaigner for Britain to remain within the EU. In July 2016 she was repeatedly shot and stabbed to death whilst holding a constituency 'surgery' (a term used when MPs visit their home constituencies from London to talk to, and hear the views of, the people they are elected to represent)- she was only 42 years old.
