The term 'conforter' is found in different places of various Versions of Scripture. The exact meaning of the word is not clearly known - see below:

Jeremiah 8:18-19New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

18 O my Comforter[a] in sorrow,

my heart is faint within me.

19 Listen to the cry of my people

from a land far away:

"Is the LORD not in Zion?

Is her King no longer there?"

"Why have they provoked me to anger with their images,

with their worthless foreign idols?"Footnotes:

  1. Jeremiah 8:18 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain

It is more commonly considered to be similar to the term translated 'Helper' in John 14:15 (NKJV - aka 'counselor' for the Greek term 'parakletos') when Jesus was telling His Apostles that they will not be left alone but would soon receive God's Holy Spirit within them to guide, strenghten, and reveal all they would need to complete there mission of speading the Good News.
