Who said 'Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain'?
The Wizard of Oz was actually a regular guy hiding behind a curtain and using a machine to create a mighty and powerful display of "The Wizard." Dorothy and her friends believed him the first time. After destroying the witch they came back to him, but he tried to deny their rewards. Dorothy's dog Toto sniffed him out behind the curtain and started pulling it away. When the wizard noticed they can see his real self, he tried commanding them to ignore that person.

No , the line "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain" is not in "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Specifically, the statement is found in the beloved 1939 film version but not the original 1900 book edition of "The Wizard of Oz." It is made by the Wizard when Toto pulls aside the curtain …hiding the humbug magician from his visitors. It is said in a last-ditch effort to keep Dorothy, Toto and their three friends from connecting a little old man with a frightening, disembodied voice. (MORE)

If you're trying to teach them, make the lesson fun. As in many child-related questions, the best answer depends on the child or children in question. I'm not a parent or teacher, but I do remember what childhood in general is like. Make the child believe that it is worth their time and effort to… pay attention. This doesn't mean to force or threaten or even bribe the child. Just make the subject (whatever it may be) genuinely interesting to him or her. This can be done using educational television/movies/games/etc. Engage him/her, so that s/he will want to better understand the subject, and will then give you his/her full, undivided attention. Nurture your child's/student's natural curiosity. Be creative. Also, it's a good idea to encourage him/her to ask questions, which helps to keep them engaged. (MORE)

Here are a few tips that might help you out. . Make sure you get enough sleep, particularly on days when you have class. Yes, I know this one sounds stupid, and everyone says it, but it does help. If you're tired, you're going to have a hard time paying attention. . If you feel groggy in the mor…ning, you can try drinking tea or coffee before you go to class. (If you already drink a lot of either of these, or other drinks with caffeine in them, back off a little. Over time, you can develop a tolerance for caffeine, which makes it less effective.) . Before class, read through the section of your textbook that deals with what you'll be covering that day, so you have an idea of what to expect. Don't expect to understand everything yet; that's what class is for. . During class, don't worry about writing down every single thing that happens on the board. Instead, spend more effort thinking about what's happening and why. Merely writing down work someone else has already done doesn't teach you very much; you already have instructions on how to do the problems in your textbook. Writing down every example verbatim just duplicates that. . After class, read through the section in your textbook again, and go over your notes. You should have a better understanding of the section now. If you have questions, try looking for the answers in the book or online (hey, that's what WikiAnswers is good for). You can also ask a tutor, or your teacher/professor. . DO THE HOMEWORK. I cannot begin to tell you how important this is. If you're not doing well on tests, this is very likely part of the problem. I know from experience just how bad things can get if you don't do the homework. Homework also helps you figure out what you do and don't understand, so you can ask questions on it later. (MORE)
