Cronus was a Titan. He overthrew his father (Uranus) by castrating him. Cronus then proceeded to swallow each of his children after they were born because of his fear that they would castrate and overthrow him as well.

His wife gave birth to Zeus and instead of giving him to Cronus she gave Cronus a rock. Zeus grew up and eventually deposed his father and the rest of the Titans with the help of the Olympians (his generation of gods and goddesses).
Cronus was the king of the titans, and Zeus's father
Kronus/Kronos/Cronos/Cronus. In Greek mythology was a Titan, son of Gaia the earth, and Ouranos/Uranus the sky. He ruled the universe until dethroned by his son Zeus.

Cronus was technically not a god, he was a Titan. He was the father of the Big Six, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hestia, and Demeter. He was the son of Ouranos and Gaea. Gaea gave him a scythe to cut his father down. He cut his father into a thousand pieces (one of which spawned Aphrodite) and scattered them all over the world. He became king of the universe, lord of time. he also ate all his children except Zeus, who his wife/sister, Rhea hid at birth and gave him a rock instead. Zeus eventually overthrew him and the Titans.
