Carmen McRae. She plays "Christine", the pianist and combo jazz leader in the St. Gregory's "Delta Queen" lounge. She sings the following songs in the movie:

"As Time Goes By", "This Year" (written by Johnny Keating, who also wrote the soundtrack to "Hotel") and "Alone Together".

Awesome movie and wish they used more of Carmen throughout the movie.

What is the name of the last song she sings towards the end of the movie (after the elevator falls)?

John Coltranea contemporary jazz or smooth jazz artist?

Neither. He died in 1967... and he's also as far from smooth as you can get in jazz. Probably bop or hard bop.
