Prime Ministers Joop den Uyl and Henck Arron and Governor Johan Ferrier were Suriname's independence fighters.
Specifically, Prime Ministers Joop den Uyl (August 9, 1919 - December 24, 1987) of the Netherlands and Henck Arron (April 25, 1936 - December 4, 2000) worked with Governor Johan Ferrier (May 12, 1910 - January 4, 2010) of Suriname to ease the Dutch colony into complete independence. Their efforts resulted in the law of Suriname's independence being enacted by the Netherlands in October 1975, the Constitution being approved by Suriname on November 19, 1975 and the proclamation taking official effect on November 25, 1975. Additionally, administrators and political office holders from all levels of Suriname's colonial government helped collect historical and statistical information vital to these three key political figures working out the specifics of transition and complete independence. It also may be said that almost the entire Surinamese population aided in the fight since the move towards independence had the support of the majority of the country's inhabitants of the cities and the farmlands of Suriname's developed coasts, plains and savanna grasslands.
