Historically and ethically, Swami Dayanand Saraswati deserves the place of Rashtrapita because he was the first national figure who spoke, wrote and sermoned for the freedom of India in 1876.Because of his writings, preachings and reforms, there were born revolutionaries who were responsible for attaining the Freedom of India. Mahatma Gandhi came much later on the map of the Struggle for India's freedom. He had only reaped what Dayanand had sown for the struggle. Seven years before Gandhi was even born, Dayanand spoke and had preached for Swarajya i.e. Self governance in his writings and preachings.
