The ecumenical calender is based upon biblical events and as such is not restricted to the solar calendar. As such the seasons differ in length and rarely line up with the popular celebrating of a season. For this reason to help people of the Christian faith better track the season of advent up to Christmas the calendar is designed to act as a daily reminder that we are approaching the time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ!
