Autism isn't something that you can 'get' - you are Autistic, it's a variation in human beings just like skin color or sex. Boys are not more likely to be Autistic per say but more likely to be diagnosed, there is a theory that Autism is actually just as common in girls as it is boys but presents differently so can be missed - as it is it's said autism is four times more likely to be diagnosed in boys, but this is changing.

scientific approaches have found males to be less empathetic and more technically minded than females - though of course this is not true in every case. It can be argued that the typical male personality is naturally inclined toward some of the characteristics of Autism and Asperger's syndrome, so boys are more likely to be diagnosed simply because girls generally have more developed social skills at a given age and will perform better on diagnostic tests. Studies have found much higher prevalence in boys at the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum, while the ratios appear to be closer to 1:1 at the low-functioning end. In addition, a study published in 2006 suggested that men over 40 are more likely than younger men to father a child with Autism, and that the ratio of Autism incidence in boys and girls is closer to 1:1 with older fathers.

Is a boy or girl most likely to have autism?

There are about an equal number of boys and girls who are diagnosed with severe cases of autism, but more boys than girls are diagnosed with moderate and mild cases of autism. It has not been determined whether this is because fewer girls have autism or because they are less likely to be diagnosed.

How many boys have autism in the world?

Autism rates are higher in boys simply because more boys are diagnosed as Autistic than girls. It was believed that Autism was a 'boys disorder' but as understanding of Autism grows we're starting to realize that girls may be equally likely to be Autistic but that Autism symptoms display differently in girls so it isn't being picked-up as easily when a girl is Autistic.

Why is autism more likely in a smoking pregnancy?

Autism isn't more likely in a smoking pregnancy. Autism is a neurological difference, just like with any other biological variation it comes down to genetics.

How often does Autism strike boys?

It is found four times more often in boys (usually the first-born)

Are more females having autism than studies actually say?

Yes, there are likely far more females with Autism than we know about.Take me for example - I was very severely effected as a child but at the time Autism was known as something that only effected boys so I was not diagnosed as a child despite being severely effected. There are many girls and women who are less severely effected, because their symptoms and characteristics present differently it's more difficult to spot Autism in those females. Socialization is also a factor, when girls are expected to be quiet and reserved it's less obvious when they are due to Autism, whereas with boys they are expected to be loud and bold so it's easier to spot Autism characteristics.

Will your baby have autism if your girlfriends half brother has it?

It is unlikely that your child would have autism. There is a genetic component to autism, so it is more likely that you would have a child with autism than a couple with no history of autism in their backgrounds. However, it is still more likely that your child will not have autism than have autism.

How can you make a sentence with the word prevalent?

Can anyone get autism?

Autism isn't something you 'get' you are born autistic - anyone can be born autistic, although there does seem to be a gentic link so often autistic people are more likely to have autistic children, or you often see multiple siblings in a single family with autism. As yet we don't know what causes autism, so we can't tell who is more likely to have autistic offspring.

Does asthma affect specific populations of people?

We don't know if Autism is more common in one race in particular. Currently figures show higher rates in white people but this is not to say that white people are more likely to be autistic, this is simply because white people have better access to assessments to get a diagnosis and culturally there will be less stigma in white communities against people with neurological conditions.

How do you get a boyfriend if you are autistic?
