They thought Bryan Singer had totally missed the point when it comes to doing a story about Superman and now are hoping to try to get the franchise on the same path as the current Batman movies. That is why Christopher Nolan has been hired as executive producer for the Superman reboot and Zack Snyder has been hired as the director because they think he can get it done just right with the little time they have to get it into production before the heirs of Siegel and Shuster take all the rights for the character away.

One had been planned back in the 1990's called "Superman Lives" which was to be directed by Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage- but the film never got made and the idea was eventually scrapped leading to other ideas that also never got made into films until Bryan Singer finally was hired to direct his story- "Superman Returns" (first Superman movie to be seen in theaters in almost 20 years). There was an animated film called "Superman/Doomsday" released in 2007 about the death and return of Superman. It is probably best to leave it at animation and not do it as live-action with actual actors.
Probably because he had chosen to direct "Superman Returns" instead.
Bryan Singer is famous for film directing, writing scripts, and producing films. He is most well-known for directing the movie X-Men and also for both directing and producing Superman Returns.
He was originally going to in the sequel to "Superman Returns" that Bryan Singer had hoped to have released by either 2009 or 2010- but that movie was scrapped after Warner Bros. decided to completely reboot the series and Routh has stated in interviews that his contract has now expired. A reboot is being planned for release in 2013 meaning every character is being replaced with a brand new cast.
$391,081,192Under a production budget of $209 millionAlthough Superman Returns received mostly positive reviews, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures were disappointed by the film's box office return. Warner Bros. President Alan F. Horn explained that Superman Returns was a very successful film, but that it "should have done $500 million worldwide. We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd." Singer reacted incredulously to the studio complaints, saying, "That movie made $400 million! I don't know what constitutes under-performing these days..." $175 million was the maximum budget Warner Bros. was projecting for the sequel, as Superman Returnscost $209 million.
Because usually Dc movies go first that's what I think and Marvel movies go last.
