Dreams are your minds way to work through things that are generally unresolved. If you think about your grandmother and your friend every day, you are already working through your issues and don't really need the nudge that dreams can provide.
I went through something similar when my brother passed, it has been twenty years and I now occasionally dream of him, usually around the time of his birthday, because although there are no issues to deal with I still miss him. You may find that as time passes you will dream of your loved ones on occasion and those dreams will be happy and full of comfort and love.
