Any religious person thinks they have found the right religion. And they want to let everyone else know about it. It's like reading a really good book, and you want to tell everyone else about it. You don't want to tell people who have already read the book. You go find people who haven't read the book. Just like religion. You go find people who don't know. And you try to convert them, because you believe you're right.

Missionaries do what they do because after hearing prophecies or reading a verse..... you start getting an exciting feeling and then you might talk to your pastor about it or even a friend. After getting tons of answers, you pray, pray, pray about it and before you know it.... God has answered your prayer and your on the mission field! An individual might decide to become a missionary after they feel the burden of responding to their religion's call for missionaries (for example, a Christian's call from The Bible can be found in Mark 16:15 "And he (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature"). They are then sent from and supported by their particular church or denomination to go into the world with the "mission" of sharing their faith and persuading others to join them in their faith. Another reason why a missionary does what they do is because of the compassion that individual has for others. They have a desire to see other people relieved of their spiritual suffering by showing them how they can be right with God and have eternal life, as well as physical suffering, which is why missionary work is often accompanied by humanitarian work, such as caring for the sick (a medical missionary), teaching, running orphanages, etc.

Answer2: Jesus was the greatest teacher of all time and the greatest missionary. Those who love him and are his footstep followers will do what he did and publicly publish the word of God to others. This may involve going to foreign lands, learning a new language and embracing other cultures to do so.
