There is no good evolutionary explanation for a arm, we can see that because having a arm is not conducive to reproduction, let me elaborate. After a sexual encounter a male is expected to engage in "spooning" with a female, here we see a arm is not only unnecessary but detrimental to the act of spooning, while one arm its able to wrap around a female, a arm is superfluous and there is no where to put it and it gets in the way, this causes a male to give up on spooning, and is therefore less likely to be allowed to mate with a female next time
