One trademark symptom of autism is poorly developed social skills. They often can't understand how their actions affect other people, and similarly, often can't understand the actions or intentions of other people. Because of this lack of understanding, some have very aggressive/defensive tendencies. Others may fight simply because it's how they release energy and they simply don't understand why violence or aggression is harmful.

It's interesting that a person would blame Autistic people's lack of natural social skills for their getting into fights (ignoring that Autistic people often have social skills training, neurotypical people do not). This would be victim-blaming, or at least assuming Autistic people are always to blame for fights.

People with Autism are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators of violence, they are more likely to get into fights because neurotypical people are more likely to bully them and try to get into fights with them. Some Autistic people may also get into fights because they have been encouraged to defend themselves against bullies. The idea that Autistic people get into fights because we're inherently violent as a result of lacking neurotypical social skills doesn't stand up to scrutiny, it also makes even less sense when you consider Autistic people are highly empathetic.

Savantism is a condition that occurs primarily in people with developmental disorders, mental retardation, or brain damage. A savant has an extraordinary ability in some area that contrasts greatly with the person's normal level of ability, such as being able to remember everything he or she has read or to make incredibly quick mathematical calculations in his or her head. Approximately half of the occurences of savantism are in people with autism spectrum disorders, although most people with an autism spectrum disorder do not also have savantism. Can people with dyspraxia drive?

I got this by goggling the subject on the National Autistic Society-Driving. http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=119&a=12991 their site is added below related links. The NAS Autism Help line occasionally gets asked about the rights of people with autism in relation to learning to drive. As autism is a spectrum disorder it is impossible to say that people with autism either should or should not be allowed to drive. Some people with autism may find this skill extremely difficult to grasp, while others will be highly competent drivers.

Are there different levels of Asperger's Syndrome?

Someone with autism can be highly functional and write about autism, or he or she can be severely disabled and need total care. And everywhere in between. Some early symptoms can be early speech, then not a word thereafter. Other symptoms include lack of eye contact, lack of affection (hugging them is actually "painful",) "flipping or flapping" their hands or objects, crying and being self abusive, obsessed with certain objects or activities, repetitive behaviors, not meeting "normal" milestones, odd eating rituals (will eat only 3-4 food items) and many other behaviors. There is no magic cure. Do some research, love your child and work to have them achieve what "professionals" say they will never do. There is a difference between autism and autism spectrum disorders. Autism is one of five autism spectrum disorders, also known as pervasive developmental disorders. There are differences in symptoms, but they also have several similarities. Each of the autism spectrum disorders can range in severity from mild to extreme. Each can occur with additional conditions that make life more complicated. For example, a person with autism might also have retardation and epilepsy, or a person with Asperger's Syndrome might also have obsessive-compulsive disorder. Also, some aspects of the condition could be mild while others are extraordinarily severe, so it might appear mild in many situations and become a serious issue in only a few situations. In addition, the more intelligent the person, the more likely he or she will have found ways to work around some of the difficulties of the condition, so it could appear less severe than it actually is.
