Basically, although all other doors are shut, there is still a small draft which is coming in through the closed door, causing another to open slightly.

I've had that happen in my 2002 mountaineer. what I've found is that if you spray the door latches with wd40 it will clean off the sensors and the door ajar light should go out. but make sure all the doors are shut.
This warning shows up on the on the dash and means one of the doors is not shut all the way. Most commonly shows up if the back tailgate is not slammed shut.
The back hatch may be ajar.
