Basically it takes a higher current to start a fluorescent lamp that it does to sustain the arc. (It's higher current, not voltage. The voltage is constant.) The ballast regulates the current flow through the lamp.

Removing the voltage from devices requiring power will turn any device off.

What does the ballast do in a fluorescent light fixture?

Electronic Ballast plays a important part in lights. We need a Ballast Tester to test the electronic ballast performance of a fluorescent light fixture. This is a basic process that can be accomplished quickly once you understand the operation of the high voltage transformer. The high voltage transformer is also encased in an oil bath that reduces the heat created by the action of the transformer. A low voltage, generally 120 VAC, is transformed into a high voltage, generally in thousands of volts. There must be a continuity between the wires of the high voltage side in order for the circuit to operate correctly. Heat can damaged the internal connections of the ballast. By using a volt ohmmeter the internal circuit can be quickly checked. Not only in the voltage, but also in the current and others factors. If you want to learn more details about electronic ballast and relevant instruments, see the related link.

What is the difference between S2 and s10 fluorescent tube starter?

- S2 starters for ignition of low-voltage fluorescent TL lamps and series/single application in high voltage for lower wattages (4 - 22W) - S10 starters for ignition of high voltage fluorescent TL lamps for wide range of wattages (4 - 65W)

What is the role of the ballast in a fluorescent lighting fixture?

In very simple terms the ballast provides an initial high voltage that is required to ionize the gas, thereby setting up an arc between the electrodes which in turn causes the bulb to light up. It also limits the current through the tube once it has started up. This prevents a voltage spike which would damage the bulb.

What is electronic blast for a CFL lamp?

The electronic BALLAST is a circuit that limits the current through the fluorescent bulb to the design value. It also provides a pulse of high voltage to start the bulb conducting when it is switched on.

Is mica fluorescent?

No, mica is a metamorphic rock. It is an excellent high voltage insulator.

What is the use of fuse in fluorescent tube?

Fuse is used to restrict the flow of current to the tube when it is supplied with very high voltage. Due to high voltage the tube may burst and even the electrical apparatus goes malfunctioning. Hence a resistor is used in the name of FUSE in the fluorescent lamp to prevent this sudden loss of the apparatus.

When did tesla invented the fluorescent light?

It was Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel who first conceived the idea of placing a fluorescent coating on the inner surface of a high voltage gas discharge tube but he didn't quite made it work properly. Tesla's investigations in the area of high-voltage RF power processing techniques did result in the very first high efficiency, high frequency lighting ballasts in 1892.

What is the function of the choke in a hpsv lamp?

The function of any ballast in a lighting fixture is to raise the voltage high enough to strike an arc through the bulb or tube.

Which lighting system will be compatible with my electric needs?

Well depending on your electric needs whether cost efficency, which would generally be Compact fluorescent light bulbs, to the amount of lighting put out which you should probally use a longer fluorescent lighting fixture or something that accomodates the usage of high watt amounts.
