"A miracle is "a transgression of a law of nature by a particular volition of the Deity, or by the interposition of some invisible agent" (Hume, 123n). Theologians of the Old & New Testament religions consider only God-willed contravention of the laws of nature to be true miracles. However, they admit others can do and have done things which contravene the laws of nature; such acts are attributed to diabolical powers and are called "false miracles." Many outside of the Biblical based religions believe in the ability to transgress laws of nature through acts of will in consort with paranormal or occult powers. They generally refer to these transgressions not as miracles, but as magick. " In general, people today are skeptical of things that happen outside of their own experience. The paranormal, occult, and magic can be simulated or made to appear real through simple illusion; street magicians such as David Blaine make the "impossible" happen all the time, but everybody knows it's just an illusion. Arthur C. Clarke postulated, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Technology has advanced so much that "miracles" are now commonplace.

Modern miracles are so much more easily disproved that the Church has to be circumspect in accepting a miracle to have really occurred, and therefore generally does so only when there is a clear benefit in accepting a miracle as real.

In former times, a miracle could be reported, often in a distant place or at an earlier time, and it would probably not be disputed.

What is the communional bread?

We (Catholics) believe that the communal bread becomes the actual body and blood of Christ and that there is the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. We reenact the last supper every Mass because Jesus told us to do it and we believe it is the same as the. There has been many miracles which indicate that there is the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We do it in rememberance that Jesus died for us and gave himself for us.
