Best Answer

Becareful if they are chewing the toilet training pads! The gel inside them will get in their belly and absorbs their moisture and can kill them!

Should a puppy be trained on a leash?

If you have the opportunity to train in a safe area, I recommend training your pup to follow you off leash. You will build a strong bond of trust with your pup and it will make leash training easy and simple.Harley HarringtonHarrington's Top Dog Training

Ive had your new poodle 3 weeks Can you start her house training from a cage now?

You can start house training your puppy almost as soon as you get her. Poodles are very intelligent so will pick up most things quickly, but the best method I have found is praising good behaviour and offering a treat every time your pup goes to the toilet outside. After a few weeks it will become second nature to your pup and you can wean off the treats. Personally I never used a cage with my poodles. I gave them the run of the house so they could investigate everything and become accustomed to their new surroundings and their new home and all the new smells and the household pattern. I also watched them like a hawk and any indication of toilet time and I scooped up the pup and put him outside and gave him a treat when he has urinated or defecated. But yes you can start house training her from a cage now. Congrats on your new pup.

What is a dogs ideal age for training?

A dog can be trained at any age. Ideal training age is 7 - 20 weeks which is the Socialization Period. As soon as you get your pup, training should be started, i.e. potty training, as the sooner you start, the less chance your pup has of developing bad habits which can be hard to break. See link below for dog training videos that you can use from puppyhood right through your dogs life.

How do you stop a puppy from killing chickens?

The pup needs to understand that the birds/flock are yours. You are the puppies Alpha and the birds are your property. Not unlike training a pup not to chew shoes, careful watch must be taken for the first few weeks of training and sharp commands of "NO" when the pup chases the birds. Take the pup around chickens as often as possible and make it feel the flock is part of the pack. Mistakes will be made but if you are watchful and you use a leash for the first few days most dogs will come to accept the birds without seeing them as prey.

What makes a 5 month old pup start to urinate constantly?

If by urinating constantly you mean continual leakage rather than frequent accidents, you need to see a vet now. Otherwise, could be stress. Has anyone been getting heavy with the youngster over toilet training or other issues? Make it clear to family members that frightening, hitting, or over-exciting is not going to reward you all with a happy, secure and, above all, continent, dog. If bad management has happened you'll need to start over with the toilet training, with calm and patience and absolutely no scary or threatening tactics. Keep lots of newspaper handy to spread on the floor, be understanding and never, ever hit the pup or become angry. Catch the youngster in the act and carry them quickly outside or to the nearest newspaper, which should be close to an outside door. Tell it it's good when even a few drops hit the garden or the paper. Try to ensure your pup has easy access to fenced outside areas all the time, and frequently take it out for a play. When it relieves itself in the garden, immediately heap praise on it. If toilet training's been carried out properly and has worked so far, and nobody has been behaving inappropriately towards the dog, your pup needs to see a vet.

At what age do you shampoo your puppy?

MORE INFO ON TRAINING you can start as soon as the puppy can walk, for a jumping pup you can start by giving it a tap on the nose and say "off" when it jumps on you(some pups get big and by starting now you wont have a big dog jumping on you),for a biting pup,you pup could grow up with a chance that it may grow up thinking its okay to bite and get put down for it, follow these steps so that doesn't happen, you cant let the pup nibble on your fingers or toes and do not put your fingers in his mouth for him to chew on them, when he bites or nibbles or if your fingers enter his mouth say "no" and tap him on the nose, than take a toy and put the toy in his mouth so he learns toys are ok and fingers are not.Obediance you can start as soon as the pup can walk ,see, and hear you (about5 weeks old),training to sit, make sure your pup knows that treats are yummy, get a treat and while your pup is standing put the treat to his nose(hold the treat so he cant eat it put can taste it,the treat must be almost touching or on his nose for this to work)than start to bring the treat up so that the pup is looking up than push the treat back so the pup should sit than treat, once your pup has done the trick correctly stop at least for a half hour and you should only work on on trick a day.

You are in the process of potty training your new puppy why does he shred the puppy pads?

Look at your puppy like you would a human baby. Small children will tear pages out of books. Why? Because they can, they may like the sound of the tearing paper. Your puppy is just being what they are ... a pup. Point your finger at your pup then the paper and say a firm 'No.' Eventually the pup will get the idea. NEVER hit your pup, but just scold. It's part of them growing up.

You will need to cut it yourself, cut about 2 inches from the belly with clean scissors and it will fall off just like a real baby.
