Because America is a continent there's North America, South America and, Central America. North America is made of Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Central America is From Guatemala to Panama, South America is from Colombia to Ecuador.

The Americas were named by German Cartographer Martin Waldseemüller in 1507 after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer. Vespucci himself only explored parts of South America.

The term "America" comes from a German map maker who believed the lies of Vespucci that he had landed in North America ( there were proven to be lies in 1890), so when it was named it was called North America and South America.
