Education is important in a society because we can get good jobs/careers. For example my father is just a high school graduate. In today's job market, employers would not hire him because they insist on having my dad graduated from a community college or have a certificate. They will ignore my dad even in the retail industry he won't be able to move up the ladder from stock clerk to management without an education. So, it does matter in todays world.
Whether public or private , education itself is essential to going to college, getting into a profession, and being more successful in life.
Public education, by itself, is a necessity in all societies. Societies have a moral and ethical responsibility to educate the masses. It is to a community's benefit to have a majority of educated persons as citizens, so that the community will continue to grow and succeed.
Public education (or private schools receiving public funds) have minimum criteria for learning, passing subjects, and for graduation. The minimum criteria ensures all students have an equal exposure to primary subjects, concepts, and implementing this learning into daily life. This baseline also helps the majority to succeed in a wide range of occupations, or to go on to college to expand the base of education they previously received.
Unfortunately, public schools have taken a beating. Many fail to live up to the standards that governments and society expect, and many students are simply "passed" to the next grade level without the needed skills.
