Because there it is immensely sought after for its decorative value. It is entirely cultural, it isn't actually hugely useful compared to more common metals, although we see gold plated teeth or audio jacks. Largely it is so expensive because it is moderately rare, but primarily because our culture has built up a perception of it as something that is prestigious and valuable. Because we like it so much, the people who sell do so for a lot of money.
14k gold is 14 parts gold mixed with 10 parts other (cheaper) metal (58.3 % gold) 18k gold is 18 parts gold mixed with 6 parts other metal (75% gold) So 18k is more expensive than 14k
Platinum is used but is quite expensive so sometimes white gold is use. Other options are yellow gold and rose gold.
Platmium is expensive because it is a type of metal.
For no reason at all. It is just an expensive brand. Some of the extremely expensive Parker pens are expensive for the material they use to make them. For instance, an expensive might be gold-plated to make it worth more.
Gold is much rarer (i.e. there is less of it and what there is is harder to find) than aluminum. There is also demand for gold due to special properties that it has that aluminum doesn't that increases the price. Gold is a much more attractive metal than aluminum. Gold does not corrode, while aluminum almost instantly corrodes on contact with air or water producing a hard transparent insulating coating on its surface.
White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel or palladium. Like yellow gold, the purity of white gold is given in carats: 24 kt is pure gold, 18 kt has 18 parts gold and 6 parts of another metal, so it is 75% pure.Since nickel is cheaper than gold this white (alloy) gold is cheaper than the yellow pure variant. The price of palladium is unknown to me, so I can't figure it out.
Ferrous metals contain iron in appreciable amount. There is no iron in gold. So gold is non-ferrous metal.
Aluminum does not occur in nature as a solid metal. It is produced by man in several processes which require lots of energy. These processes were not invented until the 1880's. So, until then, aluminum was scarcer than gold and therefore more expensive.
No, gold is not cheap anywhere. that is why it is so expensive....and shiny! : )
because gold or iron are metal if they are not a metal so they can not check the purity but they are metals..
Gold is not the only metal that does not rust. Copper is another metal that doesn't rust, and so is platinum and nickel.
