In general ... the people who do the selecting have no idea what the consequences of their meddling will be. This form of short-sightedness often results in detrimental results.

It reduces the amount of variation in a species and many activist groups say that we don't have the right in playing God in choosing the direction of a species' development. Also, too close interbreeding to get desired traits means as well as lowering variation, there is an increased risk of passing on genetic

diseases to offspring.

- It is unfair to the animal because it may have to undergo human selection instead of natural selection. In case the selective breeding does not work, the animal has to take the disadvantage by themselves.

- Selective breeding reduces the variety of plants and animals because only the strongest one are kept.

- In the case of the show animals such as kitten and dogs, if the desired trade case cannot be produced, the animal will be euthanized which is inhuman to the animal.

- May create types of plant that use more water which leads to environmental issues

- Result to the extinction of some animals or plants because the selective one is chosen. For instance, wild pigs can be extinct because domestic pigs are preferred).

- Can wipe out the pure bred animals because they are not desired by human beings.
